What We Do

What We Do

What if we could teach empathy through experience --- by using virtual reality to truly see the world through each other's eyes?

WHAT WE DO

We believe intercultural exchanges are key to unlocking SEL competencies.

As Peace Corps Volunteers, we experienced deep immersion in a culture not our own. Our personal growth during this time -- self-awareness, social-awareness, relationship skills, etc. -- was profound.

Using VR, we aim to bring intercultural exchanges right into the classroom to drive an unprecedented SEL curriculum.

The Kinful SEL curriculum is designed to achieve the following pro-academic and pro-social behaviors*:

  • Self-awareness: Understanding strengths and areas of growth, and consistent desire for self-improvement.
  • Social awareness: Capacity to interact with others in ways that show respect, acceptance, and cooperation.
  • Self-management: Controlling emotions and behaviors, especially in new and challenging situations.
  • Relationship skills: Promoting and maintaining positive connections with others.
  • Goal-directed behavior: Initiation of, and persistence in completing, difficult tasks.
  • Personal responsibility: Tendency to be careful and reliable in actions and to contribute to group efforts.
  • Decision making: Approach to problem-solving, learn from experience, use values to guide behavior & accepting responsibility.
  • Optimistic thinking: Attitude of confidence, hopefulness, and positive thinking.
